The
Library Association* set up a Libraries and Arts Working Party
in early 1996.
This was a response to a general perception that the importance
of the arts to the public library service was in danger of being overlooked
during a period when information, IT and networks were being emphasized.
This Web site includes details of the work of the Working Party and its main contributing partners, the Library Association and The Arts Council of England. It includes the report - Public Libraries and the Arts: Pathways to Partnerships - they jointly commissioned from Capital Planning Information (CPI) and also the statement of support for partnerships between libraries and the arts that was drawn up following a symposium of libraries and arts organizations in June 2000. In April 2002 the Library Association unified with the Institute of Information Scientists to form a new professional body, CILIP: the Chartered Institute of Library and Information Professionals. |
