Wrote... the southend youth arts partnership has worked with the local library in southend on sea on many art projects. perhaps our most eye catching is the development of the children's sculpture garden at the library. A 6 foot blue dinosaur accompanied by a catfishlobster elephant and other crazy creatures together with story book illustrations is open to the public during library hours. This project took 2 years and involved over 1,000 children and young people aged 5 - 16 years. Southend Libraries love art and kids - come and see for yourselves.

Wrote... Libraries and the arts are natural partners, though they haven't always got together to get the best out of each other's strengths. I welcome this exciting initiative, and I am looking forward to seeing the individual projects develop over the coming months. I am sure that library users and the various arts audiences will benefit greatly from this new alliance and I hope that it will prove to be a model for similar developments throughout the country.
