The Books Connect 2 Workshop Day took place on Wednesday, 9th July 2003. Delegates were divided into the nine local authority areas in the East Midlands, to work on specific ideas for projects in each area.

Speaker Profiles

Jaci Brumwell is the Deputy Director of Libraries & Heritage for Derbyshire County Council. Jaci has operational responsibility for libraries in Derbyshire and for the development of arts policy in the county. She is a member of the Books Connect Steering Group.

Debbie Hicks is a founder partner in The Reading Partnership, a national library development agency promoting public libraries and their work with adult readers. She has played a key role in a number of significant Reading Partnership initiatives including the research and publication of The Next Issue, Reading Partnerships for Libraries (1998), Public Libraries and their Readers Advocacy Pack and Reading the Situation, Book Reading, Buying and Borrowing in Britain (2000), Book Marketing Ltd. She is also a freelance arts consultant specializing in literature, public libraries, research and policy development. Recent work includes: Public Libraries and the Arts, Pathways to Partnership (2000), Arts Council of England and Volunteers in Library and Information Services (2000), The Library and Information Commission. She has also contributed a chapter on literature funding in the 1990s to the forthcoming Policy Studies Institute publication, Subsidy and the Cultural Sector (Summer 2001).

Nicky Morgan is the Learning and Access Strategy Officer for EMMLAC - the East Midland Museums, Libraries and Archives Council. Nicky has worked in public libraries for over twenty years and has played an active role in literature and reader development. Her current post at EMMLAC covers audience development, inclusion and cultural diversity.

Jocelyn Dodd is the Research Manager for the Research Centre for Museums and Galleries at the University of Leicester Department of Museum Studies. She has has a particular interest in learning, social inclusion and developing understanding of the role and impact of cultural organisations. One of Jocelyn's current projects is working with Resource on the Inspiring Learning project to develop measurable learning outcomes from a museum, archive or library visit - the LIRP project (Learning Impact Research Project). The LIRP evaluation tools will be used as part of Books Connect 2.
