  • A county library service developed the established concept of using library spaces for visual arts exhibitions by hosting a long-term visual arts attachment jointly funded by the RAB and the local authority. Each year a different artist is selected as artist in residence to develop work inspired by local literary connections. The project has not only raised the profile of the artist involved and guaranteed them an income for a 12 month period but has also led to the creative use of library book stock. The work produced has also featured on Christmas Cards produced by the service.

  • As part of national galleries week, a group of librarians were taken into a gallery to "read " the paintings and make connections with imaginative fiction stocked by the library. The result was the compilation of creative reading/book lists inspired by the pictures and drawing upon obvious and imaginative connections between the visual image and the book. The book lists supported by book stock were taken into the gallery for use by visitors.
